Im looking at getting a violin style base (also known as a Paul mccartney/Beatle style apparently)...pretty much the bass version of yours,I think the hollow body should hopefully give me the type of sound that Im after.....but I need to try one out first......

Now that is a very good question....

according to the lead guitarist..who also put the band together...and has the rehearsal room, we are playing Rockabilly.

BUT!!!! ...out of the song list, I would say that 50% are not Rockabilly...and..we dont have a slap bass anyway..he just doesnt get the fact that the sound from a slap bass is a massive part of the Rockabilly sound Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Now Im the first to admit that its been a looooong time since I last picked up a bass guitar...and that he is a far better musician than me....BUT..I know Rockabilly....and he doesnt Rolling Eyes Mad

so the reason why I want the guitar that I do, is so that I can use it in any band....as I think this one may be short lived if he doesnt get his way Wink Wink

phew!! I feel better now...rant over Embarassed Embarassed

are you playing lead or rhythm ?

Ahh ok
yeah need a slap bass or the sound and image will be wrong
but a violin (paul mccartney) guitar will be totally wrong for rockabilly wont sound or look right bit like the slap bass
if you think you will properly be in a rockin` band then go for a semi (like mine) if you are serious and will be in a rockin band look at a Epiphone wildcat
cost is not to bad and will be the right sound and look or a Gretsch but they cost loads

Im the bass player.

Yeah I know the violin bass wont sound like a slap..its just that Ive read on some sites that a jazz bass guitar sounds close..and the violin bass is similar, and more usable for other types of music. I would like a slap bass, but then its really only restricted to Rockabilly...plus it looks like Im having an op on my spine this year..so lugging a bloomin great slap bass about is a no no. Also I think the band might not last long ( I could be wrong) and I want to be versatile enough to play other sorts of music.
